About Nina

Nina has been learning the classical Indian dance form called Bharatanatyam since she started first grade and has been dancing for nearly 12 years.
Her teacher is Guru Geeta Raaj, well known all over Florida. Geetaji is celebrated for teaching in the pure Tanjavur tradition (Tanjavur is the town where Bharatanatyam originated) and for creative and novel choreographies in all her productions.
Nina performed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram (solo dance debut) with a 3 hour recital accompanied by a 5-member live musical orchestra on August 12, 2012.
For this accomplishment, she received a Proclamation from Orlando Mayor Hon. Buddy Dyer who decreed August 12, 2012 as "Nina Priya Kumar Day" in the City of Orlando. Nina also received a Letter of Recognition from the Chair, Seminole County Board of Commissioners, Ms. Brenda Carey.
Nina has performed at the Citrus Bowl, at Orlando City Hall, and for the MLK Day Celebrations in Oviedo. She performed every year in United Arts Fest and she performs frequently at the festivals held in Hindu Temple, Casselberry.
She has won compettions at UCF and at Orange County Convention Center. She was one of the finalists at Great Day's got Talent in Oviedo in Fall 2013.
Nina taught an Indian Dance and Movement workshop at the Montessori of Chantilly in Summer 2013.
She gave an invited Lecture Demonstration/ Workshop on Bharatanatyam at the UCF Burnett Honors College in Spring 2014.
Nina is the very first Individual Grant Winner of the Seminole Cultural Arts Council for her innovative and exciting program, Let's Move! Let's Dance! This is her second year teaching Let's Move! Let's Dance!
